According to the recent air cargo news, Cathay’s Pacific and Dragonair passenger have failed to meet the growth in number of the passengers and also have experienced a short fall in the cargo during the month of November. The company has performed better in the same month in the previous years. On comparison with the last year, this year was little dull, says the company officials. In total both the companies have carried cargo that weighs 160,120 tonnes till this year November. This is 3.0% less than what the company has carried during the same period in the year 2014. The load factor has fell down to 67%, which is 1.4% lesser than the last year. The mail revenue tone kilometers also have faced an acute fall of 3.2% this year when compared with last year.
The number of passengers have got increased, said the company report for the performance in the year 2015. According to the air freight company report on performance in the year 2015, the number of passengers who have made use of the air transport has increased to 8.1% this year. But this was something which is not planned. The air freight companies have expected that the number of cargos will be increased this year and they had no plan for the number of passengers. But the things happened was exactly out of their ideas, said the company officials. The increase in the number of passengers and decrease in the cargo carried this year was purely unexpected and the companies were not prepared enough to meet this. Hence they have failed to meet the increase in the number of passenger and decrease in the cargo to be carried.
Mark Sutch, who is acting as the General manager for the Cargo sales at the Cathay’s Pacific has told that the company has really entered into a traditional peak period this year. It was truly a traditional peak period for the air freights this November. He added to the reporters that the overall demand for the cargo has fallen shortly when compared to what the company has expected originally. The company has experienced a decline in the tonnage carried this year when compared with the tonnage carried during the same period in the year 2014. He added that currently there is a good demand for the transpacific routes. Also there is a great demand for cargo to be carried into and out of India. The Hong Kong terminal of Cathay’s pacific also has experienced the best throughput since the starting of their operations.
