India’s media reports say that Air India will be starting a service of air cargo to Surat during the coming two months while upgrading its fleet.
The Times of India informs that its CRJ flight that travels between Delhi and Surat will be replaced by the carrier and the flight between Mumbai and Surat with Airbus A319 and A320, as it takes a look South Gujarat and Surat’s cargo potential.
According to the report, the airline’s cargo division’s members visited Surat to meet diamond associations; they saw significant cargo opportunities.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) will be approving the construction of a cargo terminal for the city and also expects a handling of 40,000 tonnes during the 1st year.
Logistics and E-commerce firms like Snapdeal, Flipkart, India post and Amazon have their warehouses inside the city, yet most of the air cargo after this is trucked to Ahmedabad as well as Mumbai by road; from there it gets flown.
